Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site – Washington, DC
The evening of April 14, 1865, has forever been marked with tragedy. On that night, our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, was assassinated in Ford’s Theatre by actor John Wilkes Booth. Just days after General Lee’s Confederate troops surrendered at Appomattox, VA, a time of hope and peace in Washington and around the country turned to a period of mourning that America had never seen before.

A rugged, white water river, flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. Apostle Islands National Lakeshore – Lake Superior, WI

Ice Age National Scenic Trail – Madison, WI
Wetlands along the Ice Age Trail can be enjoyed from boardwalks like this one which was constructed by volunteers. A mere 15,000 years ago during the Ice Age, much of North America lay under a huge glacier. Mammoths, saber tooth cats and cave lions roamed the earth! Some of the best evidence of this glacier is found in Wisconsin such as the state’s many lakes, river valleys, gently rolling hills, and ridges. The nearly 1,200 mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail, established in 1980, traces the glacier’s edge.

Grand Teton National Park – Moose, WY
