Meet Jennifer Trittipo, our February 2015 #DryTortugas Photo Contest winner. We had the chance to ask her a few questions about her experience at the Dry Tortugas National Park. Read on to learn how she captured her amazing photo!

1. When did you visit the Dry Tortugas National Park? Did you arrive by seaplane, the Yankee Freedom ferry or another way?

We visited for a camping trip on October 7, 8 and 9, 2014. We arrived by the Yankee Freedom.

2. How was your ferry trip?

The ferry trip was very relaxing; the weather was beautiful, the food was great, the videos were informative and the staff was very friendly and accommodating.

3. How did you capture your winning photo? What inspired you to take it? Did you use any cool camera gear?

On the night of the photo, we woke to the sound of thunder in the distance. Thinking it was going to rain, everyone who was camping got up to secure items and cover things up, however the rain stayed in the distance, and we got to watch an amazing light show instead. I had bought my first wide-angle lens (10-18mm) about a month before we went, and I’m glad I did. I’ve always wanted a picture with lightning, but it can be hard to capture, luckily the lightning stayed around for a while and I got to play with different exposure settings.

 4. What made your trip to the Dry Tortugas memorable?

The trip to the Dry Tortugas was amazing, mainly because we were able to camp in such a remote place. We really enjoyed the day trip we took a few years back, but I’m glad we decided to spend a few days there camping this time. Such a peaceful setting, unlike anywhere else. No phones, TVs or computers to spoil it.

5. What do you plan to do with your National Park Annual Pass? Which national park would you like to visit next?

I would like to visit all the National Parks in Florida, including the Dry Tortugas for another camping trip.
