Meet Heather Larson, our July 2019 #DryTortugas Photo Contest winner. We had the chance to ask her a few questions about her experience at the Dry Tortugas National Park. Read on to learn how she captured her amazing photo!

1. When did you visit the Dry Tortugas National Park? Did you arrive by seaplane, the Yankee Freedom ferry or another way? We visited September 2018 by Seaplane.

2. How did you capture your winning photo? What inspired you to take it? Did you use any cool camera gear? That day I was equipped with my underwater Pentax Optio, Canon Rebel SLR and iphone 7plus. Believe it or not, this particular photo was taken on my iphone. Arriving early by Seaplane was an amazing experience. We felt like we had the fort to ourselves as we explored. I loved the color of the bricks against the fresh green foliage and of course the “tourist tree”. With the vastness of the fort, this spot caught my attention with the curving tree, and angle of the fort.

3. What made your trip to the Dry Tortugas memorable? I know this is a contest for the Yankee Freedom but arriving early before the ferry via seaplane made this memorable. Without many people around so early in the morning it was just so peaceful. We might have to just take the ferry and stay overnight!

4. What do you plan to do with your National Park Annual Pass? Which national park would you like to visit next? We are planning a trip to Colorado to see Garden of the Gods and use our pass at Rocky Mountain National Park. Thank you so much for selecting my photo!
